Iterations didn't converge |
Simultaneous iterations for friction and single-directional restraints failed to converge. 1. Switch to iteration mode 1-5 in Project Settings. This usually resolves the issue. 2. Adjust marker spacing in Project Settings. Default is 500D. For convergence issues, use 50D-100D. Enable "display additional markers" in 3D View Properties to see them.
3. Check for small gaps in the model. Do not model installation tolerances as gaps. Multiple small gaps (1-3 mm) at supports cause convergence problems. Remove them. Model only significant structural gaps controlled during installation, such as limit stops or seismic stops. These are typically larger (>5 mm) and few in number. 4. If iterations fail due to precision loss, insert markers. Add markers on both sides of a branch connection when branch diameter is significantly smaller than the run pipe.
5. Set the friction factor to zero for the problematic restraint. 6. Remove the suspect support. Check displacements at the free node. If displacement is within allowable limits or very small (<5mm), the solution is nearly correct. If displacement is larger but stress and other restraint loads are acceptable, the system may perform adequately without the support. 7. Make slight model modifications: adjust pressure, temperature, or support locations. Minor changes can sometimes achieve convergence. 8. Set the friction factor to zero for all supports. 9. Insert markers. This often resolves the issue. 10. Check for geometric nonlinearity and correct the model. 11. Divide large models into smaller segments using fixed anchors. See Independent Piping Segments. 12. If these steps fail, send the START-PROF project file to technical support. |
