Learn about START-PROF pipe stress analysis software
Vacuum piping analysis complies with GOST 32388-2013.
Specify negative operating pressure to model vacuum conditions. START-PROF operating pressure represents gage pressure - the difference between internal and external absolute pressures. For absolute vacuum conditions, set operating pressure to -0.1 MPa (-1 atmosphere).
Vacuum piping characteristics:
Pipes contract under external pressure rather than expand
Unbalanced axial expansion joints compress under external pressure
Pipe wall buckling may occur under external pressure. Review pipe wall buckling check table after analysis. Additional verification available in Start-elements
If buckling analysis fails, increase wall thickness or add stiffening rings. Verify ring configuration and spacing through analysis.
High-temperature piping buckling analysis excludes creep effects per GOST 32388-2013 clause 14.1.1. Maximum wall temperatures: 380°C for carbon steel, 420°C for low alloy steel, 525°C for austenitic steel.
