Life Hack for piping stress analysis of big models containing closed loops. Usually the analysis goes very slow for models with huge closed loops. That’s because band width of stiffness matrix for closed circuits is great. The analysis time increases with square of the matrix band width.
If you will temporary break closed loops, then analysis time will become 10-1000 times faster. It’s convenient to reduce the analysis time during intermediate analysis runs, when improving or creating the piping stress model.
After the model is ready you can connect all break points back again and run final analysis.
To do this in PASS/START-PROF just add 2 nodes and delete the pipe between them. Add end Caps. To connect nodes back — just delete caps, select 2 nodes and click “Add pipe”.
