PASS/NOZZLE-FEM 3.5. Program Manual

1.2. Use limitations

The program using assumes the restrictions that the finite element method has in an elastic formulation, and imposed on the minimum length of the nozzle or support, the distance from the fixed edge of the base element, etc., which is associated with the imposition of edge effects from the applied loads and displacement constraints.

The employment of this software is advisable when the calculation methods of Design by Rules exceed the code scope, which are indicated in the relevant paragraphs of the section "Theory". The most common examples of this necessity that designers have to deal with are tilted nozzles, the ratio of the thicknesses and diameters of connected elements, the need to take into account local stressess, thermal deformations, cyclic loading, etc.
